MEDIA ADVISORY

As New Congress Takes Shape, U.S. Lawmakers Head to COP31 with Blueprint for Climate and Economic Progress

NOVEMBER 4, WASHINGTON, D.C. — Days after a monumental midterm election that ushered in new leadership in Congress and across the country, a delegation of 19 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives will travel to the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya, Türkiye from November 14th–16th. Led by the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition Institute (SEEC Institute), Members will meet with international policymakers, civil society organizations, advocates and activists, community and business leaders, and experts to strengthen partnerships and explore opportunities for renewed U.S. engagement on climate, energy, and economic policy.

The groundwork for the 120th Congress is already in place. SEEC Institute’s Thriving Economy Project, released in September, lays out policy options to lower costs, create good-paying jobs, strengthen American competitiveness, and address climate change. The delegation will take that work abroad to talk with international partners about shared challenges and renewed partnerships, from energy affordability and security to agricultural innovation, critical infrastructure, and community resilience. Members will return with new relationships and firsthand insights they can turn into congressional priorities.

The trip builds on SEEC Institute’s year-round work connecting U.S. lawmakers with international partners and advancing practical climate and clean energy solutions. With a new Congress on the horizon and a policy blueprint already developed, the delegation represents an opportunity to move from ideas toward action and strengthen U.S. engagement on the global stage.
