SEEC Institute Announces Senator Sheldon Whitehouse Joins Delegation to COP30 as the Sole U.S. Federal Representative
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 11/14/2025
Belém, Brazil
The Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Institute announced today that Senator Sheldon Whitehouse will join its delegation at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), making him the only American federal representative participating in this year’s summit. SEEC Institute is a nonpartisan organization that works with Members of the House and Senate to advance climate and clean-energy solutions.
Senator Whitehouse has long been a leading national voice on climate accountability, clean energy, and the economic imperative of decisive climate action. His presence at COP30 underscores the United States’ continued engagement in global climate cooperation, even amid unprecedented constraints on official participation.
“Senator Whitehouse’s presence ensures the United States still has a federal voice at COP30,” said Max Frankel, Executive Director of SEEC Institute. “His leadership and expertise will help advance the climate and clean energy priorities that matter to American communities and global partners alike.”
SEEC Institute had prepared to bring a 17-Member congressional delegation to COP30, but the shutdown ultimately canceled the travel. The work continues on the ground at COP with SEEC Institute’s team and at home with Members who remain committed to driving climate progress and strengthening U.S. engagement abroad.
SEEC Institute will continue to support constructive engagement on the ground in Belém, ensuring that America remains part of the global climate fight.
