SEEC Institute Appoints Congressman Sean Casten to Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, DC - April 14, 2025

The Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Institute is pleased to announce that Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) has joined its Board of Directors, bringing decades of scientific, entrepreneurial, and legislative expertise to support the organization’s mission of securing the biggest climate and clean energy solutions possible.

Rep. Casten has devoted his career to confronting the climate crisis from every angle - as a biochemical engineer, clean-energy entrepreneur, and as a Member of Congress representing the western suburbs of Chicago. His work in Congress is grounded in technical knowledge and a lifelong commitment to accelerating the transition to a cleaner, more resilient economy.

“I’m thrilled to join SEEC Institute’s Board of Directors,” stated Rep. Casten. “The Institute plays a vital role in supporting policymakers with the analysis, educational opportunities, and practical solutions needed to drive real climate progress. I look forward to helping advance this work.”

Before entering public service, Rep. Casten worked as a clean energy consultant and manager at Arthur D. Little then served as the president and CEO of Turbosteam Corporation, which focused on utilizing energy recycling technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by generating heat and power from previously wasted energy.  In 2006, Rep. Casten co-founded Recycled Energy Development (RED), which focused on recycling wasted energy and converting energy facilities to cleaner, more economic uses.  He was a founding chairman of the Northeast CHP Initiative, a nonprofit advocacy organization with a mission to advance policies that favor energy efficiency in the Northeast United States.

In Congress, Rep. Casten draws on this private-sector experience to develop market-based strategies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen U.S. energy leadership, and deliver economic benefits to communities nationwide. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the Joint Economic Committee, and holds key climate leadership roles as Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and as Co-Chair of the Sustainable Investment Caucus.

“Congressman Casten is one of Congress’s most knowledgeable and solutions-driven climate leaders,” said Max Frankel, Executive Director of SEEC Institute. “We’re excited to have him join our Board of Directors as we scale our work to drive progress on the climate and clean energy challenges that matter most.”
